We are incredibly proud of our coaching staff here at Average Joes JOAD. Our team of volunteers are excitedly waiting to help you meet your archery goals. Our club believes in a strong emphasis on athlete centered coaching. We believe our athletes should be involved in finding solutions to their problems. This leads to a stronger understanding of their form and the confidence that they can find solutions through exploration when a coach isn't available to help. We work hard to develop positive self image and community, both inside and outside of our program.
I believe it is important to help archers grow and meet their goals not only in archery, but in life as well. I encourage families to become involved in a positive manner. This can be through support of their athlete, club involvement, or participation as an archer. Developing an environment with limited expectations and pressure to perform is something I push for. It is important to me that my archers are happy and healthy both mentally and physically. This promotes lifelong involvement and continued passion for the sport, while building family and community around it.
I believe that accountability and good communication are important on both the coach and athlete side. Willingness to be vulnerable is a huge key to growth and success, and allows for trust to be built. Continued education is also important to me. I am always trying to better myself and expand my knowledge so I can continue to offer new and better experiences to my athletes.
I coach for the moments when an athlete figures out something new and has the excitement that comes along with that realization. I believe archer empowerment is very important. An athlete doesn't always need to be told the answer to come to a conclusion. A good coach can help direct exploration to allow an athlete to reach a desirable conclusion on their own, building confidence and a better understanding of what they are learning.
As a coach, I strive to develop an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome and included. I want my archers to know they have a safe place where they can experiment and grow without fear of failure, because without failure there is no growth. In order to achieve a safe space to grow, you need to develop trust and a good connection. This makes open communication possible.
My goal as a coach is to better myself so that I can find new and better ways to communicate to my athletes. I work hard to help them meet their goals in archery as well as in daily life, and I expect them to work as hard as I do. The excitement and smiles, that look on an athlete's face when they meet a goal they set, that is why I coach.
I enjoy being part of something that is bigger than me. I want the same thing for everyone I coach. Even though archery is an individual sport, I think you can still build community around it and become a family / team. When my archers feel like they are part of that community, they stay involved long term, they take chances, and they grow as people. When all of these aspects come together, that is when I'm in my happy place.
As a coach, I live for seeing the “Ah Ha” moments. I believe messy learning is always the best. In order to learn, you have to make mistakes. Knowing this, I work to create an environment where it is safe to explore, fail, and succeed, because the combination of these things is essential to growth.
Everyone starts at the beginning, even us as coaches. I work to improve my coaching skills through continued education and working with coach mentors. I believe every athlete and coach are exactly where they are supposed to be, so I strive to be inclusive of all ability and goal levels.
I work hard to create a family and community environment. When an archer feels safe and confident in their environment, I am able to help them advance and grow in the sport; developing self confidence and skills they will use throughout their lives.
I'm here to help.
I believe archery is more than just hitting a target; it's a journey of self-discovery and lifelong learning. My passion lies in empowering individuals to explore this rewarding sport and providing them with the tools to reach their full potential, whatever their goals may be.
Building trust and open communication is the foundation for growth. I foster a supportive environment where athletes feel comfortable asking questions, seeking guidance, and celebrating their achievements. But most importantly, I believe in making the learning process fun and engaging. Laughter and enjoyment are essential ingredients to long-term success.
As a coach, I embrace flexibility and individualization. I tailor my approach to each athlete's unique needs, learning style, and personal goals. Whether you're seeking competitive excellence or simply personal amusement, I'll provide personalized guidance to help you discover your own path to success.
My coaching journey is fueled by the "lightbulb" moments I witness - those moments of breakthrough and accomplishment. Witnessing athletes achieve their goals and build confidence is truly rewarding. I hope to be a positive influence in your journey, just as my mentors have been for me.

Bill started this club in November of 2018 with big dreams and a passion for growing the sport that is unparalleled. He was always pushing the archers to grow and often let his emotions get the best of him when an archer met their next goal. His pride in the club and all of the archers is inspiring. While Bill is no longer coaching with us, he still remains a huge part of our club and who we are today. Thanks for everything you have done and continue to do. We love you Bill!
